Zicam Side Effects Lawsuit – Zicam Smell Loss Attorney

There are lawsuits pending nationwide involving the use of Zicam cold remedy products. These lawsuits are alleging that there is a link between Smell Loss and Loss of Taste and the use of Zicam cold remedy swabs and nasal gel.

Consider the following hypothetical. Last winter, John Doe came down with a nasty cold. He headed to the local drug store and picked up some Zicam gel nose spray. After using the product, he had an immediate burning sensation, but didn't think anything of it. As time went on, John began to notice that he was having difficulty smelling and tasting things. His wife would prepare his favorite meal, and it just wasn't appealing to him anymore. One day, John began to develop a horrible headache. He didn't realize it, but his family had been painting and varnishing in the guest room. John was breathing in the fumes all day without opening a window. John decided to make an appointment with a specialist to get to the bottom of things. His doctor took a medical history from him to rule out any chronic disease or head injuries. John underwent a series of diagnostic tests including an MRI. He even did scratch sniff tests to try to identify different scents. The specialist diagnosed John with a condition called Anosmia.

John went online to do some further research. He quickly learned that there was a class action lawsuit against the company that makes Zicam and settled in 2006 for 12 million dollars. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of 340 Zicam users. He noticed several law firms that were investigating cases on behalf of victims of smell loss today. After that, the FDA had issued a public warning advisory in June of 2009 about the risk of smell loss after using some brands of Zicam cold remedy products. Specifically, The U.S. Food and Drug Administration advised consumers to stop using three products because they were associated with the loss of sense of smell:

Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel
Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs
Zicam Cold Remedy Swabs, Kid Size (a discontinued product).
